Focus uses a developmental framework
A developmental framework is a special way of seeing people and framing problems. It works great for situations that involve prevention and for situations that are complex and complicated.
A developmental framework looks at the capacity of a child and family and the context of the situation—the whole environment We for example see a child’s mental maturity and emotional capacity for growth and change and create the conditions where a child can change and grow rather than making them grow and change….as a result transformation….
Any one remembers the famous study where they looked at kids who were separated from their mothers…remembers there were some who were anxious and afraid to explore others were really confident of exploration….everyone concentrated on the small picture instead of the big one…what makes kids grow is feeling safe..That’s where we start with every child and family we meet…..
We create safety with kids and families by building people’s resources and focusing on the positives in their lives and by creating environments that cuddle and keep people warm and engage people and by hiring staff with a unique ability to be compassionate listen and share and create a sense of reciprocity…when that happens people feel respected…respect is developing a sense of self…
